A Job Doesn’t Define You

You are more than your achievements or a job title — you are a being who came here to grow.

A REQUEST TO THE UNIVERSE

Twenty years ago, I asked the universe—God—to help me find a job where I could apply what I knew how to do. I felt a little lost, I needed stability, and I dreamed of a new place where I could grow and develop.

THE WEIGHT OF STABILITY

At that time, I was also going through changes in my first marriage. My income was essential, and back then I only had two children depending on me. Finances weighed heavily on my shoulders, and that’s why this job was so important.

That’s how I ended up at an interview with a headhunter, who referred me to a very prestigious law firm. When Human Resources saw my skills, they decided to place me in the collections and billing department. And that’s where it all began.

I stayed there for two years. I learned so much. I had to deal with very difficult people, I strengthened my English and my writing, and I delved into accounting matters I had never studied before.

A NEW STAGE

Later on, I moved to an even more important law firm, where I ended up staying for 18 years. During that time, I went through very difficult personal challenges—my divorce, raising my three children mostly on my own. And there, I found support.

I built a strong team with the partners, and I developed skills that weren’t part of my formal studies (I’m not an accountant), but I carried myself as if I were one.

AN INNER DESIRE

And yet, over time, I began to feel that something inside of me wanted more—born from my personal growth and my search for purpose. That “more” wasn’t a promotion. It was freedom.

There was a fire inside whispering: “You must live from yourself, not from someone else’s dream.”

But I didn’t know how to leave. I was torn between duty and the call of my soul. Until one day, I walked into the office and knew something was about to happen. And it did: they called me in to say that the partners had decided my cycle at the firm had come to an end.

And to my surprise… I felt relief.

They were apologetic, even confused. I was the one consoling them. I told them: “Life is made of cycles. You are simply the messengers of something greater.”

A CLEAR SIGN FROM THE UNIVERSE

For me, it was a clear sign: “You are ready to step out into the world. I will hold you in everything.”

They gave me two weeks. And during that time, I didn’t leave with resentment or anger. On the contrary, I reflected on what I had lived, gave thanks for the friendships, for everything I learned. I fully supported the person who would replace me—without ego, with an open heart.

THE LIBERATION OF A CYCLE

A month later, already outside that environment, I felt as if a veil had been lifted from me. I had stepped out of the dynamic of being an employee, of adapting, of molding myself…

And I understood something profound: that job did not define me. It was not who I am. Nor who I can become.

For years, I molded myself to what was expected of me, to what the environment required. But now, in freedom, I can finally be who my soul always longed to be. And for that, you need purpose, courage… and faith.

THE POWER OF FAITH

Faith that the best is yet to come. Faith in yourself. Faith that the greatest things happen when you dare.

And no, I don’t minimize what I lived—quite the opposite. In any job, we grow:

  • We learn to deal with all kinds of people

  • To recognize true leadership

  • To set boundaries

  • To discover what we’re really made of

I also went through very tough times, when I had to defend myself and set firm boundaries—especially with one partner whose treatment of me was diminishing. As I grew, I gained confidence in myself, sowing my work with dedication. There came a point when I had the courage to set important professional boundaries. That too was a great act of self-love.

THE UNIQUE VALUE

When I said goodbye, one of the partners told me: “We are all replaceable.”
I don’t believe that. No one can replace the energy, the commitment, the heart you put into a place.

Because what I sowed, what I supported, the times I helped others grow, the bonuses they achieved, the moments I gave beyond what was expected… that cannot be replaced. That leaves a mark.

My essence, my energy, my way of being—they are unique. I am not an interchangeable piece. Today, I close that cycle with gratitude. I honor myself.

LOOKING BACK WITH GRATITUDE

Today, as I look back, I see that every stage of my life, every challenge, every closed cycle, was necessary to bring me to this moment of transformation. Every experience, no matter how painful, taught me something valuable about myself and about what I truly want.

The path is not always easy, but what I have learned is that when you dare to listen to your soul, the universe responds—not to what you want, but to the vibration you emit.

Remember this:
You too have the power to write your own story, to rediscover yourself, to fly without fear… Trust your process, your timing, and the universe that always walks with you.

What step will you take today to get closer to the life you truly desire?
