LIVE THE PRESENT MOMENT

It’s normal for your mind to always be somewhere else: thinking about what already happened or worrying about what’s coming. Living in the present isn’t easy because we were never taught how to do it. But when you start noticing the now—even if just for a few seconds—you realize that this instant is the only thing you truly have.

It’s not about stopping your thoughts, but about observing without judgment, without wanting to change anything. Just being here, with what is. Even if it seems small or simple, that moment connects you with yourself and with life. Little by little, learning to live in the present helps you release stress, ease anxiety, and find peace in the middle of the noise.

Breathe, feel your body, look around you, and return to this moment again and again. It’s a practice worth embracing.

WHAT IS MEDITATION?

When we sit down to meditate, we close our eyes and expect that moment to be relaxing, pleasant, and simple. But the truth is that, especially at the beginning, it can be a challenge.

We’re not used to sitting face to face with our emotions. Over time, we learn that meditation is a valuable opportunity to get to know ourselves better and become aware of everything that lives hidden in our minds.

When we sit down to meditate, we don’t know what obstacles might arise that day. Keep the following in mind:

Doing nothing: At first, it’s hard for us to simply sit there “doing nothing.” We need to feel productive, and being still makes us anxious. You may quickly notice yourself becoming restless—your body wants to move, your jaw tightens, your shoulders rise, you adjust your seat.
You feel uncomfortable in the posture because you don’t want to be there. Don’t react to the discomfort—accept it, and little by little, your mind will begin to calm.

Distraction: As soon as you sit down and close your eyes, your mind starts running through everything you still have to do. Calming the body is one thing; calming the mind is another. The mind is scattered by nature. In “Qi Wong,” it’s explained that the mind is like a monkey jumping from vine to vine—meaning from thought to thought. It goes into a loop, and nothing seems to stop it. Any sensation or tiny stimulus brings up an image, which sparks another thought, which reminds you of something else, and so on, endlessly.
What strategies can help you center your mind in the present? Breathing is your best resource. Focus on how the air enters and leaves your lungs. Inhale for 5, hold for 5, exhale for 5—repeat 5 times, and you’ll notice the shift in your body.

Boredom: At first, it’s difficult to disconnect from the flood of stimuli we’re used to. Or perhaps meditation makes you sleepy. “Nothing is happening,” you think. But what if you feel bored because deep down, you don’t really want to face what’s inside of you?
It’s not easy to be alone with ourselves, and at first, it’s normal to feel anxious or afraid. Next time you meditate and notice boredom or the urge to distract yourself, ask:
Am I afraid of facing what’s in my mind? How do you feel? Are you frustrated because meditation isn’t working out the way you expected? Pause and question what emotions are hidden behind that feeling of boredom.

Judgments: From the time we’re in school, we get used to being judged by others, and worse, we learn to judge ourselves. We’re constantly measuring our performance. “Am I meditating the right way?” Stop judging the experience. In meditation, there’s no set amount of time you have to sit, no specific thoughts you need to reach, and no particular level of concentration you must achieve.
The goal of meditation is not to empty the mind, but to look within it. Meditation leads us to deepen our awareness, to understand and explore what lies in our minds. When you realize this, you can begin to practice honest meditation. The process of learning and acceptance is something that cannot be judged.

Sit in a comfortable posture: Find a quiet place where you can focus without interruptions. Avoid lying down, as you might fall asleep—that’s why it’s best to keep your back straight, with a touch of alertness. Ideally, sit cross-legged.

Feel your body: Begin with a body scan to connect with yourself and notice which areas feel tense. Then, release those parts. Observe how your body slowly relaxes and lets go of stiffness.

Breathe: Connect with your breath. Notice how the air flows in and out of your lungs, how it passes through your nose, your throat, how your diaphragm moves. Your breath is the anchor that keeps you in the present. Let it be calm and deep—inhaling and exhaling through the nose.

Your senses: Disconnect from the outside world and gently withdraw your attention from what’s happening around you. This allows you to direct your awareness inward.

Calm your thoughts: Once your focus is turned inward, you’ll notice all kinds of emotions surrounding you. Observe the thoughts that arise. Don’t suppress them—every emotion has something to tell you. Simply take note without judgment, without diving into them, and let them go.

Connect with the soul: You’ll realize that you don’t need thoughts to feel reality. From stillness, you begin to perceive the raw truth of who you are.

I hope these steps accompany you at the start of this great journey…
the journey of discovering who you truly are, beyond the mind and the body.

STEPS TO FOLLOW

Entering Alkimya was like opening a door I had kept closed for years.
It wasn’t just a course—it was a rebirth. I learned to set boundaries, to listen to my intuition, to love myself deeply.
I began making decisions from peace, not from fear. I transformed the way I relate, even with my partner and my children.
Today, I feel freer, more alive, more myself than ever before.

Finding the Alkimya program felt like receiving a direct call to my soul.
I wasn’t sure it was for me because of my age, but from the very first session I felt seen, honored, and welcomed. Gabriela carries a warmth that embraces you, and each gathering was a reminder that it is never too late to be reborn.
